TitleParallel-adaptive algorithms to compute transient but statistically-stationary flows
Year2000
AbstractA methodology is presented for the implementation of finite element methods for fluid dynamics using domain decomposition on parallel computers. Algorithms are presented for h-adaptative simulations for transient fluid calculations which rely on error indicators based on statistics of various flow quantities. This enables the construction of adaptively refined meshes based on statistically steady error indicators, rather than the traditional steady quantities. To make effective use of these advanced simulation procedures, sugnificant effort is required to design and develop advanced software. This paper presents implementational details pertaining to these type of simulations. A description of a domain decomposition technique used for the parallel implementation is included, as well as data structures for the efficient implementation of hierarchical basis functions within an existing linear basis solver. Examples are presented to demonstrate the efficiency of the implementation.
