TitleParallel Adaptive Finite Element Analysis of Fluid Flows on Distributed Memory Computers
Year1994

AbstractA parallel adaptive implicit finite element method for the analysis of steady and unsteady compressible flows on distributed memory computers is presented in this work. The methodology developed here relies on domain decomposition techniques for efficiently exploiting data locality, parallel finite element solution strategies for large-scale problems, adaptive mesh strategies for refining and derefining the discretization, mesh migration techniques for reducing the load imbalance created by the adaptation process. The implementation is carried out using the message passing paradigm and, relying on general features of distributed memory architectures, is in principle applicable to a wide variety of computer systems.
