TitleTowards Realistic Automated 3-D Modeling of Metal Forming Problems
Year1999
JournalEngineering with Computers
Volume15(4)
Pages356-374
AbstractThis paper focuses on the issues dealing with automation of the 3-D modeling of forming processes, specifically addressing (i) automatic remeshing of the deformed workpiece, (ii) the use of the CAD geometry of die for contact checks (within the analysis), and (iii) curvature compensation of nodes on the free surface to make the simulations more realistic. The procedures developed have been used with commercial software products including a CAD system, finite element solver and an automatic mesh generator to demonstrate the modeling of two forging processes.
